Multiple victims who are hurt from being bullied are starting to fail in school. There are many effects on bullying and some samples are thinking about suicide, scared of coming to school, and beginning to not care about school. There has been a great increase in deaths because of students getting bullied. The bullies scare the students so much that they do not want to come to school
But during this economic recession, college students have been having a difficult time staying in the college path, especially working class students. The lack of moral support from their families prevents these unfortunate students to finish their college education. The increase of college tuition and limited financial aid are causing students to go into debt, making them hesitant whether they should keep studying or not. Also it’s preventing students from picking needed major but because the low paycheck they are not sure if they will be able to be sustained. But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools.
In other words, the contemporary pressure for money influences many lower-income students to enter college with inadequate funds, which ultimately forces them to drop out of college. Meanwhile, many universities struggle with a sufficient response to this alarming collegiate quandary. While Leonhardt fails to accurately represent certain points, his argument is certainly effective at explaining the relationship between education and socioeconomic class that contributes to the alarming rate of college dropouts. At age 16 my aunty dropped out of high school and her life has been a living hell ever since. The age requirement to drop out of high school should remain the same because at 16 the part of the brain, called the Frontal Lobe, which controls decision making, isn’t completely developed. “Students who receive poor grades, who repeat a grade, or who are over-age for their class are more than likely to drop out.” (Do Something) Students who receive poor grades are likely to not care, get upset, or do something about it. Getting bad grades really affects you when you put so much time in that subject. If you don’t do the work, how do you expect to get good grades?
Before the depression occurred, companies were making more goods than consumers were buying and because of this many employees were laid off and since no one had the money to pay their debts. So to make up for this lost cash everyone wanted to sell their stock and since everyone wanted to sell their stocks and no one wanted to buy stocks the value of stocks fell dramatically, This can be shown in the quote “A panic set in. Soon everyone wanted to sell their stock at the same time,” which shows how people reacted to the large fall in stock value. When the economic collapse occurred this caused the price of goods to rapidly deflate. And because Canada relied on the income of exports, many businesses and manufacturers became bankrupt.
Paul Krugman: “America Must Redeclare the War on Poverty” Krugman states “poverty in early childhood is like poison to the brain”. Many children experience the effects of poverty such as unhealthy levels of stress, thus making it harder to escape poverty. Since the war on poverty was abandoned approximately forty years ago and the government shifted its focus on the alleged abuses of welfare, the percentage of those in poverty has increased and is getting worse. When President Johnson declared the “war on poverty” forty four years ago there was a dramatic reduction of those affected by poverty. The increase in the percentage of people today in poverty should show the government something needs to be done and we should once again re-declare
Another problem that social media creates another way for people to bully or have access to emotionally abuse others. Bullying has become a debacle in the news for years on kids that are being abused emotionally and even in some cases physically as well. Bullying has a huge impact on schools and education. In many cases children who are victims of bullying have a lower self-esteem later in life, and are prone to missing more school because of excused and unexcused reasons. This results to kids have lower grades cause they are not there to get the full education and lower grades.
From the 20th century to the present, this gap has substantially widened. Due to this increase, suburb areas and large cities like the city of Houston have had budget cuts occur in their school systems as the economy has worsened. Of course, the budget cuts have affected the poor areas more because of the simple yet saddening fact that the poor had no money to begin with. The Chicago Tribune News Paper went on to observe this trend by having Greg J. Duncan and Richard J. Murnane conduct a study to see the difference between parents in rich and poor areas who place their children in enrichment programs like music or tutoring. Enrichment programs have been proven to improve the quality of the education a child a receiving.
Standardized tests punish all students classified under minorities, special education, and those who do not comprehend the English language. For students in underfunded schools, it is difficult to compete with the middle class, the wealthy, and the educated in a well-funded schooling environment. According to Education Week, “No Child Left Behind” also includes the increasing numbers of high-school dropouts as schools focus on the middle range of students to neglect the lowest performers. Students who do not meet proficiency requirements on given standardize tests may have their diploma revoked and in worse case repetition of the grade may be required. It reflects badly on the school when this occurs, and often provokes investigation into the administration’s wrong doings.
