School Detention: A Measure to Prevent Misbehavior Ninoshka Jimenez Kaplan University School Detention: A measure to prevent misbehavior School environment should be a place to educate students, teach them how to succeed in life, and help them grow mentally and professionally. The environment of a good school can be affected by the students own misbehavior. According to Sun, R. C. F., & Shek, D. T. L, “student misbehaviors retard the smoothness and effectiveness of teaching and also impede the learning of the student and his/her classmates”. (2012) Misbehavior involves; vandalism, disrespecting teachers and other school staff, inattentiveness, physical aggression and many others: Any type of misbehavior will have consequences and should be prevented in the manner possible. Sometimes a misbehaved student will be suspended: A time that it would not be under proper supervision if the parents or guardians have other responsibilities. Therefore, instead of suspending students for improper behavior, the school system should reinforce detention in school grounds, as a result of this reinforcement there would be less expulsions, and incidents of misbehavior. Misbehavior (an improper behavior) is not a new social issue, different types of misbehavior have been present for years. This issue involves different kinds of situations: Vandalism, bullying, disrespect or physical aggression are examples of misbehavior. The most known by society is bullying, it can affect a person in any stage of life. It has also been affecting students for a long time, but it has taken another path and also become life threatening. Bullying can be social, emotional, verbal or even physical. Usually verbal bullying include name calling, threats, teasing or inappropriate words. Examples of social bullying can include spreading rumors, leaving the student apart of activities or groups,
