As I begin this journey to finally complete my BSN, I definitely find that I am already looking forward to being done. I know this is going to be a difficult and busy year ahead, but I look forward to the rewards of a greater flexibility inherent in having a BSN. My managers have been encouraging me to take on more and more responsibilities at work, and grooming me for a management role. Completing this program will prepare me for this role, and I welcome the experience and knowledge I will gain. My greatest fear is not being able to keep up with everything in my life, and that my perfectionistic tendencies will slow me down from completing the work in the time I have.
I have become more studious and have placed a larger importance on my grades and how they impact my future. With the help from my guidance counselor thru the extra time my teachers take to help me when I’m struggling. I have realized my education is everything, being able to know things, will open my future. Bishop Noll is preparing me for college, to have a better future, and have a great career, to survive with using the knowledge obtained and the faith to carry on during the struggles in life. Graduating from Bishop Noll in 2017 is a goal I have to work for.
When I decided to go back to school, knew that college would help me refresh my brain in certain areas that I may need improvement on. I also returned to school because I want a job that will fit with me. Since I have been out of high school, I have had quite a few jobs. The jobs that were employed at, I knew that those jobs were what I did not want to have a career out of for the rest of my life. So, after all the different jobs I had back to back and me not being satisfied with either one.
For many graduate students they already have full times jobs and families which can make pursing a difficult task figuring out how to manage home time and school work. Its important to remember which “Grad school requires taking a long term perspective on time. Use a yearly, monthly, and weekly calendar ("Time Management Tips For Graduate Students", 2013). Created a calendar not only helps to keep you motivated it also helps with time management. Its important to be able to set aside the time needed to complete the assignments.
But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools. The education system needs to be reformed so students have the opportunity to choose whether they want to go to college or do vocational training instead. A college degree is bringing more negative aspects into a student’s life therefore students, especially from working class, must know the alternatives to be able to succeed. Most of the students in the United States are middle or working class. In addition of going to school, working class students also have to get a job to be able to help out their families.
There are countless things that people have to do every single day in life so going college will help give you a better idea of what the definition of life really is. And the last reason why college matters is because it helps you interact with other people better. Communication plays a very important role every single day and a lot of employers rely on their employees to have sufficient communication skills. Some people tend to interact with people very well and others don’t. For the people who don’t interact with people well, college will give you the opportunity to enhance your communication skills for the real world.
I have to be able to make sure that I set aside enough time to do my schoolwork. Having a wife and children and also having a full time job with a lot of overtime, and which I drive to and from an hour every day can make it difficult to get my work done proficiently. Making sure that my wife does not get overloaded with the children is also a concern. I do not want the fact that I am attending school and work affect the duties that I have as a father and as a husband. I also want to make sure that they understand that I have to spend the time needed to get my work done as effectively as possible.
The choice was difficult yet necessary, as I knew that my parent’s desire for me to return to school was influencing me. The need for a better life for me and my family was the most significant reason. Multi-tasking home tasks, work life, and college seemed overwhelming, yet necessary to restart a life that leads me in the right direction. The thought of returning to school was intimidating since I wasn’t quite sure of what I wanted to do. Sacrifice was something that I had to learn to tolerate when returning to school.
Education they need to be able to read at a 9th grade reading level, some can’t read write or maybe even spell. As for relationships there needs to be a mutual one between the child and the teacher. If the children learn to have respect for their teachers they will learn to have respect for their employers as well. Some people in poverty think it is a life sentence but it is not. Yes they may be working a low wage job but if they were to go get their GED they may be able to get a higher paying job even just with a high school education.
A career change may also be a result of external pressure, such as a lay-off or termination. Whatever the circumstances, thinking about the next career move can be both stressful and energizing. As working adults begin the "re-careering" process, a common first step is higher education. In fact, 71 percent of adults considering a career change believe that education will play a role in their career paths; 84 percent agree that education is important in achieving their future professional goals (Zepeda, 2004). Experienced professionals are returning to the classroom not only to acquire knowledge, but also to seek interaction with other working adults and discuss how theories are applied in the business world.
