Schizophrenia Case Study Due: Abnormal Psychology: Abuse, Addiction, & Disorders Instructor: What are the symptoms displayed by the client? What is his diagnosis? Tim had the classic symptoms of schizophrenia, the included; Disorganized and paranoid thinking, ( He would not go outside because of pregnant women, believed medication would not work because he liked dogs…) delusions, and disorganized speech and actions (includes talking and shouting from his bedroom window, beating on things, watching television programs long after they had ended). He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. What methods were used to diagnose the client?(Be specific.) What other methods might have been useful? The methods used for diagnosing included that the author/doctor came to visit him once a month. He was able to diagnose through interviews with Tim, with Tim’s family and through observations. During these home interviews the author also administered several different psychological tests to Tim to help with the diagnosis. Tests included; Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, The house-tree-person test, and The Rorschach Test. Which view can be attributed to the client: the biological, psychological, and/or sociocultural? Why did you choose this view? I think the psychological and sociocultural views can both apply to Tim. Both the visits with the author along with the medication found to work for Tim helped him. Having a doctor of his own ethnicity as well as learning to be and function in society more often (the trips to the doctor via taxi etc) can also be attributed to Tim. What methods would you use to treat the client in the case study? Why? It
