Say No to Zoos ENG/147 October 27, 2014 Say No to Zoos According to Elephants In Zoos Don't Do Well (2012), “For every elephant born in a zoo, on average another two die.” Animals should not be kept in zoos because they may be abused, limited to essentials of life, and harmed. This is one of many examples of what the animals are going through. The zoos are not good for the animals. They serve no purpose other than to entertain others. People are killing off innocent creatures for their own pleasure; that is just sick. Animals should be free like everyone else. They have no purpose in life if they are trapped behind bars and in cages. Animals are being abuse, neglected, and robbed of their rights when being kept in a zoo. Animals are often subject to abuse by their ‘care takers and rescuers.’ Some animals are taken from their homes and placed in environments where it may be too hot or cold for them. Examples of this are: The penguins are used to sub-zero environments but are kept in places such as Los Angeles. Just the same, the polar bears are also in the same boat as the penguins. This is not right or far to these animals and it brings them anxiety and depression. Sometimes the animals are kept in areas that are too small. Penguins are used to big areas where they can play and slide on their bellies down steep slopes. They are also used to diving down into the water and catching their meals. However, in zoos they do not have the room or ability to do this. Animals in the zoo are just not properly cared for. All animals in captivity face some type of problem. A great example of this is the penguins. In the zoo, even though their exhibits are kept clean, penguins often die off in big groups. This is because bacteria grow very quickly and the penguins do not have any immunity to it because they use to live in sub-zero temperatures where bacteria do not
