There are 3 alternative futures, business as usual scenario which will be unattainable in the long term, water crisis, which is the most worrying of all which shows mismanagement of water resources or climate change, threatening the water and food supplies. This could potentially lead to a wider geographical problem such as conflicts. The last is sustainable water, which suggests stabilising consumption and human environmental impacts. One player is ‘WaterAid’ an international non governmental organisation, who are non-profit, voluntary citizens group. NGOs usually focus in developing countries, where many are in poverty have very little basic resources if any.
In some countries, no middle class exists. Only high class and low class, if someone is not rich they are dirt poor. In some third world countries people struggle just to survive. They have to live day to day not knowing if they will have a full meal, much less any scraps to eat. They have to go looking for food by either; looking through dumpsters, beg for the food or scrape up some change, enough to buy a very small portion.
When I go to the beach I see how dirty the water is there. I hesitate to swim in it. Lake Erie is a beautiful lake when it is not so dirty, and we should try and preserve it. If we don’t it will be become so polluted that it will be considered dead, this happened in the 1960s due to all the factories dumping waste in to the Lake. It was literally a dumping ground and it even caught on fire a few times due to the toxic wastes.
The air quality on the shoreline of Lake Huron is the worst in the south Ontario area. (Sivers, A, n.d) Sediment loading is known to high levels of deferred solids being washed into creeks and rivers and carried down into the lake. (Sivers, A, n.d) Sediment loading can also be caused by dredging which can cause a decrease in food source for the aquatic life. With having foreign vessels follow in and out of the lake from the Atlantic is also causing problems. With the vessels having foreign aquatic life attached to the bottom of the ship and also leaking fluids into the lake while passing through.
In the US, fracking is also exempted from six other key pieces of regulation relating to hazardous waste and pollution. One of the biggest factors in the legal battles is what they use in chemicals inside the fracking process. The loophole allows them to keep that as a ‘guarded’ secret and they do not have to disclose all the chemicals that are used while fracking. There reservoirs over time have shown wear and tear and even possibly a defect in manufacturing of the well. There have been reports of the well collapsing and creeping into other water sources where the ecosystem around it has become a ‘dead zone’ for any type of life animal or vegetation.
Thoreau made a very selfish decision while thinking of himself and not thinking of others. Living the way Thoreau believed in today would be something called being unsanitary. Drinking the water that we have today has fluoride in it to help our teeth. We also need the technology that we have to support the making of medicines. Living in the wilderness will not support your everyday needs to survive in life.
(Brimblecombe 1) The river was contaminated and no one did anything to fix it. It was unhealthy for the people to drink but they had no choice because there was no other water for them to drink. The river that they got their water from was polluted and they risked their life every time they drank from it. Pollution that was occurring in the Victorian Era is still in existence
Two environmental problems caused by extensive plastic bag use are the chemicals that make the plastic bag and the way we dispose of them. Plastic bags are very dangerous to the environment. The plastic bag is made of toxic chemicals like xylene, ethylene oxide and benzene. Plastic bags are non-biodegradable which means these toxic harmful chemicals are putting people and the environment at risk. Because people don't dispose of the plastic bags properly they get into water ways which eventually affect the see life as well as all other animals and living organisms including plants.
Water supplies have been contaminated due to companies not using proper procedures and there also have been seismic activity in areas where there is rarely seismic activity. Fracking’s economic benefits do not compensate for the destructions that we are doing to our environment for generations to come. Many people involved in the fracking industry want you to believe it is safe but when using the numerous chemicals there is no telling what can go wrong. “Water would simply sink into the rock without cracking the substrate. For this reason, the drilling companies must make a slick
The effects of human development have polluted the waterways of the state as well, making it difficult for native fish to survive long enough to breed. Pictured at the end of the document is a model of the food chain in the rivers and lakes of
