Under Saddam Hussein’s rule, Iraq faced UN economic sanctions that constrained the oil industry making trade very difficult. Although these sanctions have since been lifted, civil unrest and internal economic problems since the war have continued to disrupt supplies. Iran has an elected government but its politics are strongly influenced by religious leaders. This has damaged relations between Iran and the Western world and as a result the supply of oil from this region has been restricted. Political developments in the Middle East are therefore of great importance to the energy security of the rest of the world as the region possesses most of the worlds oil and gas reserves.
American’s can’t “pinpoint any lasting way in which the stunning attacks brought Americans together, strengthened our national character, made us more willing to sacrifice or even changed the daily routine for most citizens of the United States”. The shaky economy is still present today, the United States’ GDP accounted for about 23 present of the world’s outputs. Today that has gone to about 19 present. The nation is in debt, 5.8 billion in 2001 and now over 15 trillion in 2011 which is about 100 present GDP. People wanted a memorial for 9/11 but this will cost the country more money and that fact that it will put them even more under isn’t helping either.
They believe if they don’t police the world and give aid in certain disasters they will be seen as tyrants and turned against by foreign nations, and it is a well-known fact that the US cannot survive without foreign supplies, especially with its constantly failing economy. One of the main foreign supplies the US depends on is oil. We can relate many of our foreign to our need of oil and right now our foreign oil is below 50 percent and our government is beginning to realize just how deep our foreign dependency is (debate). Foreign oil is the reason we went into the war in Iraq (debate). If we didn’t enter the war in Iraq we would have taken a major dip in foreign oil, and we are already running low (politifact).
III. Why the war was in the United States' national interest A. The Effect of Higher Oil Prices B. The Effect of extra income on Iraq’s foreign policy IV. Why it was not in the United States' national interest.
So what was the firm belief system of consecutive American administrations that caused all this to occur ? PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL LEAD TO HIGHER OIL AND GASOLINE PRICES. Lets not also forget the power of the Arms industry, disguised as defense, that still sells billions of dollars of weapons to the area. Therefore it has not been in the short-term economic interest of the U.S. to foster Peace in the Middle East. Using the above reasoning, the U.S. has encouraged extremist governments, toppled democracies, as in the case of Iran to replace it with a monarchy, rigged elections, and many more unspeakable political crimes for U.S. businesses abroad.
Internationally, however, the war had major historical significance. The Spanish-American War signaled the emergence of the US as a great power onto the world stage of international relations and diplomacy. The war did not make the US a great power: the rapid industrialization and economic growth of the previous decades had done that. However, the war did announce to the rest of the world that the US was now a major player. Lifting its head from a century of isolationism and flexing its muscles against the Spanish, the US now transitioned to a vigorous role in world affairs.
Rhetorical Analysis This letter was written by U.S President, George Bush on 9 Jan 1991, to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in order to justify the reasons for an outbreak of war against Iraq in case the country does not withdraw from Kuwait and does not comply with the UN Security Council resolution 678. Although only written to the Iraqi President, the letter addresses to the world to give the cause of a future action due to noncompliance. The writer’s thesis can be seen at the start of the text, where he clearly mentions a probable outcome, that is, war, if Iraq does not surrender. Thereby grasping the attention of the reader and develops curiosity to determine a way how war can be prevented and whether there is any logical reason for the
I think that what should be done is what Sen. McCain proposes, I have gone many times through his plan and I think that is better than Sen. Obama’s plan. Sen. McCain explains clearly that withdrawing would bring total instability to Iraq which is true because right now there is not a stable government yet. If Sen. Obama’s Plan was followed then there would be a big problem because then it would be a fact that Iraq
Although the Containment policy seemed successful for many in the Middle East was a failure. In Iran and Egypt two affairs happened at the time it created a more stronger fight than the U.S could handle. The government of Iran resisted against the control of petroleum by western companies. The American Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) created a coup and helped fight against communism. The dictator was elected. He was Mohammed Reza Pahvlevi. The CIA protected oil for the West.Americans intervened in this issue which caused a major conflict against the Iranians.
The last major rationing in the United States was the oil crisis during the cold war because of increased tensions with Iran, the U.S. government put a ration a gasoline only allowing people so much at a time. Rationing for the most part is beneficial because its protecting scarce resources from being consumed too fast. But sometimes
