The Second Red Scare In1945 when world war two had ended due to Japan surrendering, the United States and soviets had become the two new superpowers. They were fighting so much that it created the cold war at the end of the war. During this war the soviets wanted to spread communism and the United States wanted to contain it. This time period was known as The Second Red Scare (ohiocentralhistory.org). Truman hastily enacted plans to contain communism in America after seeing that Communist in China had almost full control of country (slideshare.net). In the United States, the thought of the spread of communism was becoming so much of a worry that President Truman created a foreign policy just on anticommunism. In 1947, President Truman issued Executive Order 9835, which authorized the attorney general to list Fascist, Communist, or subversive organizations, and made membership or even sympathetic association with such group’s grounds for dismissal (apstudynotes.org). He investigated thousands people but only 205 had proved to be disloyal. Among the accused were Alger Hiss, Klaus Fuchs, and Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. Truman didn’t work with Stalin as the previous president Franklin D. Roosevelt did. Truman and his administration had their own idea of dealing with communism which was called containment. This policy was created by George Kennan. This new fear was starting to spread through the United States really fast (apstudynotes.org). A lot of people were starting to think that communist spies were sneaking into the United States and getting into American establishments (ohiohistorycentral.org).
