Within the last two decades, sagging pants have become one of the most noticeable and controversial fashion trends in the United States. The opinions of how society feels about this trend can be divided into two groups. People who are in favor of sagging pants simply say that the style is comfortable and is a way to show their freedom of expression. Those who are opposed to this fashion statement complain that it is no more than a display of public indecency. Some of the opposition even wants to make sagging pants into a criminal issue.
Evelyn Ticey Composition 1 29 November 2014 Saggy Pants Sagging is a popular trend all over the world, it is not a trend that is specific to a location. Sagging is when people, mostly men, sag their pants below their waist exposing their underwear. Some people think that this is an offensive fashion due to the origination and some people considered the clothing style public indecency. Many public officials around the world are trying to outlaw the saggy pants fashion. Even though some may not particularly like the fashion, sagging your pants should not be categorized as indecent exposure or considered illegal activity.
In some states, the individual must be convicted of two serious felonies for the three strikes law to apply, while in others any felonies count towards the third strike. Critics of the three strike law express many strong arguments against their harsh legal statute. Our society has ultimately had an issue with the three strikes law. Some people have said that the law “destroys the flexibility of the courts and the judge, it is unjust in certain conditions, and it adds more criminals to an already crowded and expensive criminal system”
Ricardo Scartozzi Jela Latinovich English Comp 104 30 October 2012 Drastic Measure for a Drastic Offense: Benefits and Disadvantages of Mandating Chemical Castration for Repeat Sex Offenders in the U.S Anyone with a reasonable conscience cringes at the thought of repeat violent sex offenders in the U.S consistently receiving miniscule prison sentences, even in comparison to first time non-violent drug offenders. They’ve committed an act that haunts and affects the victim’s psychology, esteem, and various other traits for the remainder of their lives. Is there truly a permanent solution to ensure the safety of potential victims? Some would agree; others not so much, but the one method both views agree would see at least evident results
This has also been shown in a 1994 survey of 2,400 teenagers and about half of them said that society is biased against them (Discrimination Against the Young). In the media, teens are stereotyped as being bad kids that like to cause mischief. Through curfews, we can flip this stereotype around. The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., thought the same way because they had rising reports of juvenile theft, vandalism and gang activity. They now don’t let people under the age of 16 in the Mall on Friday and Saturday nights (Discrimination Against the Young).
The three strikes law was implemented in 1993, it was created to act as a strong deterrent as well as to identify and incarcerate habitual offenders by enforcing minimum sentence lengths. The advocates of the law propose that it keeps violent and serious criminals behind bars therefore reducing crime rate. Those opposed suggest it overfills our prisons with aging criminals that eventually hamstring our economy. Overall I believe the three strikes law does more good than harm, and Ill examine articles that go deeper into these matters. According to Eugene H. Methvin, a large portion of violent crime can be prevented with an effective strategy of identifying and incarcerating the individual, keeping him/her off the streets; saving society much
Some argue that the police’s most defining feature is their capacity to use coercive force (Katz & Walker, 2008). Force may become physical, as well as the power to arrest, and the use deadly force. It is important to keep in mind that there are laws set in place to limit the amount of force an officer uses. Such laws have allowed for better policing practices and an improved police/community relationship. Although police use of excessive force still arises from time to time, the number of incidents has dropped dramatically over the years.
Out of each culture, I think African Americans get the worst of it. Some examples are: 1. African Americans are more violent than others. I have to admit, I used to believe this – mainly because of the movies I watched. African Americans do have a higher criminal arrest, but it can’t be proven
Enforcing restriction to Hi Hop, it would force rappers to come up with better music that would last longer than comparing to today’s music a month or two. It would be obvious due to this restriction the number of crimes that happen in a daily basis will drop to a big percent. Everyone will be able to listen quality Hip Hop music with positive messages that would encourage young and adults to think better about life. We as citizens have the right to support the ban on dirty lyrics that is causing our society to be a violent environment for us to live
(A1): “Stand your ground law” provides protection for the victim who had no other choice than to use deadly force. “Stand Your Ground” and other laws like it not only give the public more rights to protect themselves, but also provides a strengthening legal safety net for the people who had to resolve to the use of deadly force (Holliday 407). An example of using these laws as a safety net takes place in the case of Beard v. United States. In this case Beard was on his own property when a man arguing with his wife began to approach Beard in an “angry manner” with his hands in his pockets. When the man
