Communication skills, family centred care and compassion are necessary attributes for a nurse to have, in order to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with pediatric clients. Nursing pediatric patients while having many similarities to nursing those of other age groups brings unique challenges due to the young age of the person. Nursing babies and children takes a special kind of nurse. One who is sensitive to the needs of the whole family. Skills in how to communicate effectively with both the pediatric patient and their parents are important for a nurse to foster to maintain good therapeutic relationships.
Through review of recent literature into the assessment and management of individuals affected by paranoid schizophrenia, this paper will discuss in detail how the nurse goes about assessing the patient, why assessment is vital, common outcomes of the assessment and finally go into detail on how the nurse manages a patient with paranoid schizophrenia. Stein-Parbury (2009) discuss the importance of providing an environment without distractions for an assessment to occur in, as this enhances the ability of both the patient and

They then need to report this to a supervisor/manager who should then contact social services and/or the police. Also reports will need to be written up.

How the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics would influence a final decision in each case study. With the patient with the hemorrhagic stroke, it is our responsibility to discuss with the patient’s family possible options in which they would feel comfortable taking. According to the Code of Nursing Ethics, “the nurse’s primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community” (ANA Code of Nursing Ethics). With the patient having no advanced directives, the decision is much harder to take. Ethics committees can be useful in this situation, because they can help explain the patient’s situation and provide possible answers to those hard questions.
The ANA code of ethics has provisions in place to assist in a decision for this case. Provision 1 protects human dignity, the right to self-determination. Provision 2 protects the patient's interests and facilitates collaboration among health care providers. Provision 3 and 4 provides standards, accountability, responsibility for nursing judgment and action. In the case of malpractice witnessed by a nurse against a fellow nurse and the facility that they worked, the code of ethics also has provisions to protect nurses as well.
Assignment 304 TASK A supervision notes As an experienced social care worker you have been asked to mentor a new social care worker. You plan to use a supervision session to explain about the duty of care and how this helps to protect individuals from harm or abuse. Prepare a set of notes to help you with this supervision session Ai) What is meant by the term 'duty of care?' A duty of care is the requirement that all health and social care professionals, and organisations providing health and care services, you must put the people who use the services first. They also have to do everything in their power to keep the service users safe from harm.
1.2 Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding of individuals. All workers in a childcare setting have a ‘duty of care’ to protect both children and other co-workers. Duty of care means that a person or group has a responsibility to ensure that there is reasonable standard of attention and care given to avoid neglect which may lead to or cause harm to others. It is important to excersice duty of care, especially in young children to help them to develop immune systems which can protect them from childhood illness and other diseases, which may cause them harm ot disable them later in life. Children develop the ability to see potential dangers and learn how to deal with them.
As Nurses, it is important to wash our hands before and after patient contact. Hand hygiene is the single most important practice when reducing the spread of infection during patient care (Folan, Baillie, 2009). The CVB (Care Value Base) is an ethical code which governs how caregivers need to act in certain situations within a health and social care setting. They must not be discriminating, violating people’s rights or providing poor care for their patients. The caregivers must however protect patients from harm, maintain confidentiality and respect patients’ privacy.
The BRN manages those with nursing licenses and if necessary take action against nurses who have displayed unsafe nursing. They do this to protect the public by making sure they practice safe nursing. The BRN defines the standards for safe nursing care for each state in the Nurse Practice Act. (NPA). The Nurse Practice Act defines the qualifications needed for a nursing.
