ROTC: A strong advantage for college ROTC stands for Reserve Officers Training Corps, which is a training program to prepare college students to become officers. In this group, men and women are given a chance to fulfill their military service as an officer while receiving payment to attend a university. Even though most students do not prefer this lifestyle going into college, it has been interesting and informing in many ways while studying this particular group. The true purpose for studying a group like ROTC would be to learn about a different view of life as a college student. The results can be surprising to some, due to the amount of work these guys put in, and can also be inspirational, because of the great success some receive from…show more content…
This event took place at the Recreation Fitness Center at six o’clock in the morning. Despite the snowfall throughout the night before and into the morning, I was determined to get up early, as a member of ROTC would, and experience what they go through this early into the day. My method was to go on the upper floor and look down on the group while they are performing their exercises. I came in with an open mind, because I have never seen a gathering like this one with ROTC in person. When I take my field notes I look for specific but basic material. I look for actions and reactions between the instructor and the students. When I continue to take notes I ask myself questions like, what are they doing? To start off I will say from experience that getting up at five o’clock in the morning and performing physically draining exercises is no easy task. This group is determined and properly disciplined to maintain an organized and effective workout day in and day out. I was impressed and motivated just by going and watching ROTC at the Rec Center. The results are clear from what I have observed. The group wears athletic clothing to benefit them during their exercise. They all wore the same grey ARMY shirt with black athletic shorts and athletic running shoes. Since it was indoors it is acceptable that they wear this, but if it wasn’t snowing and they were outside I would imagine that warmer attire would be necessary. The language that was displayed was impressive because there was one instructor giving out orders while the rest of the students listened and followed them. The instructor would yell out, “POSITION OF ATTENTION”, and the whole group would quickly stand straight up and look ahead for further instructions. Other language was from the three older men walking around the group while they were exercising. These men were barking words of motivation to keep everyone working hard. Laughter was given off after a hard work out was complete to kind of reward the ROTC members for their hard work and to keep them from giving up. During the exercise everyone is counting out loud and right before
