Supervisory relationships, these are relationships between supervisors or managers and they should be easy to approach with any worries problems or concerns that you may have. Professional relationships, these can be with doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Working towards a common goal requires being able to articulate thoughts and ideas with clarity and conciseness. Members of the interdisciplinary team must be able to explain the plan of care to client in a manner that is understandable; only then can the client make an informed decision regarding what treatment will be in their best option. Patients and health care providers must have a trusting relationship and open communication to enhance the possibility of better outcomes. You work a set procedure and have a role in what you do. Time limits and boundaries apply and you do not have to like the people you work with but need to keep personal opinions and feelings to yourself. Mutual respect and understanding is a key factor in developing a good working relationship. A working relationship must be kept professional and formal.
Communication between colleagues is essential, so that it ensures a continuity of care for the client, and all staff are aware of the current needs of the client. Communication is vital to make a persons quality of life better 1.2: Effective communication is the foundation if everything you do in your work and affects every aspect of your work and who you work with, The resident is the most important but liaison with the family and friends is crucial for personal information including colleagues. Communication is different depending on the person and the reason : ie a GP for medical reasons, a funeral director for there last wishes, a social worker to determine there needs. It is a two way process and the type of communication will vary depending on who you are communicating with and their age. The communication can be either verbal or non verbal.
Trust, support and co – operating with your co – workers are important aspects of teamwork situations. In social care setting, teams can change quite quickly, as people leave or join. So it is important to be adaptable, accepting and supportive of co – workers in order to maintain high standards of care provision for individuals. These concepts would be leadership, putting the patient first, communication and improvement. An organizations leadership should be trustworthy and be readily available when their staff comes to them with any concerns or issues they have with the facility. This concept also coincides with putting patients first. The staff should make it there top priority to understand their patients need. A patient safety and satisfaction should be the staff main focus.
Ive seen this happen where the partner takes sides, which is unprofessional and a conflict of opinion. This is not remaining impartial in the workplace where all colleagues should work alongside each other for the interest of the main priority which is the patient Outcome 1.2 S There are many different working relationships in the health and social care setting such as. Registered nurses, Health Care Assistants, Doctors, Managers, Consultants, Porters, Clerical staff even down to the volunteers. We all work in the same environment and we all have the patients needs first so we all need to work together to maintain a high standard of care. We should all respect one another for the different jobs we fulfil because we are all aiming for the same outcome which is patient care.
The Humanistic Approach, Psychodynamic Approach, Behavioural Approach and the Cognitive Approach are well known and positively used in health care settings, but before any of these approaches can be put into place with a service user the health care worker/team must make sure that they are applying the correct one. This can be achieved by knowing the individual, knowing about their past, ensuring that the staff involved are trained appropriately and competent in their role, what risks will be presented and are they acceptable, will intervention be required and what techniques can be used, and will this approach help alleviate the current problems. It is also desireable that the carers are sympathetic, non-judgemental, patient, kind, and friendly and have excellent communications with colleagues. The Humanistic Approach highlights the significance of the individuals belief about themselves and their own personal values. It reflects the human need to achieve the best they can.
Relationships differ in health and social care setting such as collegues, managers, doctors, paramedics, district nurses and service users with their family and friends. Whilst a professional manner should be maintained to all, you would address your manager in a different way to your collegues and a doctor in a different manner to a service user. An appropriate language and demeanor should be employed to appropriate relationship. Use and Develop Systems that Promote Communication. 1.1 Communication affects my work setting in many different ways, between the service user, their family, friends, carers, seniors and all the medical professionals. This may be done in many different ways ie in person, email, telephone calls, text messages and written correspondence. All individuals have the right to communicate in whichever way they feel most comfortable and this should always be supported accordingly. Effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of interpersonal techniques promotes strong working relationships and will promote good quality care.
