Learning Outcome 1: Understand working relationships in health and social care 1. A personal relationship is usually one based on love and trust where two or more individuals share the same interests, feelings and beliefs. Usually only people who can relate to each other will choose to associate together and like to share activities. A working relationship is interdependent like a personal one, however it is based on professionalism. You may not always enjoy the company found in your working relationships as you do in your personal ones, but must always act in a professional manner based on the values and targets you have been set to work to. 2. Within a Healthcare setting you will be expected to work with a wide variety of people. Patients and their families/carers/visitors, Doctors, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Cleaners, Ward waiter/waitresses and all manner of visiting Allied Healthcare Professionals such as OT’s, Physiotherapists, Radiographers etc. We also, could not do our job without the fantastic input from the many voluntary organisations working within the hospital such as multi faith leaders and support groups. It is important that all of these individuals work closely together to provide an holistic approach to the care the patients need and receive. You should strive to be courteous and trustworthy ensuring that you are able to give excellent verbal and written instructions and able to follow these instructions as prompted by others where your skill set allows. Showing the necessary willingness to continually improve your skill level is also paramount. 1.
