In April, 2001 convicted-offender database got what was called a “cold-hit” because the perpetrator of the crime had been convicted of shooting at a residence that was occupied, which in North Carolina requires that the persons DNA be placed in the criminal database. He was brought in for questioning, served with a search warrant and a blood sample taken. The blood was analyzed and a match was made to the DNA of the perpetrator the authorities had named the “Night Stalker”.
