My personal well-known image of rocking chair is a classic wooden chair that is made with one material, which is wood. In these images, both chairs seem like they are crafted slightly different way from my typical image of a rocking chair. Both chairs seem like they are designed for more of craft purposes than functional purposes overall. There are obviously more rocking chairs in the market that look much more comfortable than these two and imagining myself reading a book in these two chairs, I do not think I can sit down for more than an hour. These two chairs have similar aesthetic qualities in how negative spaces are creating visually attracting qualities. For the first image of chair constructed with steel, polyester and birch, it looks quite unstable because the steel bases on the bottom part of the chair look too fragile compared with much larger sitting space on the top. From looking at this image at first glance, asymmetric structure of this chair makes the craft look unstable. However, without the steels used as base, this rocking chair would not be able to create such strong impact with all the negative spaces create by different thin lines of steel. I am not familiar with the fiber glasses material used in the sitting space, but it looks cold and uncomfortable with the black color used in the material. Just like the first image of chair, second image of chair also looks like it is created for craft purpose. I have never sat down in a chair with this much of curving shapes so I am quite suspicious If I can enjoy the moment of relax in this chair. There are too much curving lines in this chair and it causes me to consider this chair to be unstable because there are no base structures to hold the balance of a sitting person.
