RIO GRANDE SUPPLY COMPANY I. PROBLEM STATEMENT A. FACTS OF THE CASE • Rio Grande supply company is a wholesale plumbing supply company with Jasper Hennings as president • The company upholds it’s values such as integrity, honesty, and respect for each individual employee and lives by those principles with a thrust in good example • Henry Darger a hard working chief of operations and member of his church fired a female employee for having access another worker’s email surreptitiously which she did not take well • Henry Darger was found out that he is logging onto adult pornography sites in the office • The other employees are using the company’s computer personally wherein the company turns a blind eye • Henry Darger was a valued but a troubled employee • Jasper Hennings vetoed the policy that management had the right to access and review anything the employee created, stored, sent or received on company equipment B. KEY PROBLEMS OR ISSUES • Will he strictly implement the company’s policy regarding the personal use of company equipment? • How will Jasper Hennings handle the COO’s case as compared to a rank and file employee? II. KEY OBJECTIVES • Corporate Level • To uphold the company’s values • To review and revise the company’s policy regarding violation of company’s values in accordance with current legal, social and ethical practices • Functional Level • To give sanction to Darger without firing him • To be fair in giving sanctions to managers versus rank and file employees • to provide professional help such as psychiatric management surreptitiously to Darger • to give due process to the female employee after investigation • To improve morale, integrity, dignity, and loyalty of employees III.
