Ricky Martin Fame Sergio Robles University of Phoenix General Studies GEN 200 Nanette Morrow March 09, 2010 Ricky Martin Fame What comes to mind when you hear the name, “Ricky Martin?” One thought that comes to mind is, “Livin la Vida Loca.” The 39-year-old Puerto Rican, Ricky Martin; he has proven to be a successful actor, composer, singer, and an excellent dancer. Even though he lives the saying, "La Vida Loca,” he has proven to be an outstanding solo artist because of the number of albums he has sold and also the crossover to English has launched his career to the next level. Ricky Martin’s career started out at a young age. Martin was a former member of the famous Puerto Rican boy band from the 80s called, “Menudo.” Though his talent came naturally, he had a problem with, his height. Even though his height was a challenge, it was not enough to stop Martin. As member of boy band “Menudo,” he soon starts to build fame and his singing career begins. By the age of 17, he realizes the boy band “Menudo” “I wanted out. I thought Menudo had given me all it had to give,” says Martin (Cobo, 2006, para. 20). After Menudo, Martin decides to go solo. His first two Spanish albums were “Ricky Martin” (1992) and “Me Amaras” (1993). After a long and successful sale of these albums, he did some acting. He came out in the soap opera “General Hospital” as Miguel Morez and on Broadway as Maritus in “Les Miserables” (Cobo, 2006, para. 35). In 1997, he released his fourth album “Vuelve” which included the hit song “The Cup of Life.” In 1999, it was no surprise that his album “Vuelve” would receive a nomination for Best Latin Pop Album at the Grammys. Martin in 2001 was again in the Latin Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video 2001 for “She Bangs.” In addition, his most recent nomination was for Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album, Male 2007 for
