Research Proposal: Problems Faced by Part-Time Female Student Workers Date: November 3, 2009 To: From: Subject: Proposal to do a research on INTRODUCTION A part-time job (PTJ) is a form of employment that carries fewer hours per week than a full-time job. Workers are considered to be part-time if they commonly work fewer than 30 or 35 hours per week. PTJ has prorated salaries and benefits and a career ladder. Workers are hired because of their skills and compensation levels comparable to, or above, those of full-timers. According to the International Labour Organization, the number of part-time workers has increased from one-fourth to a half in the past 20 years in most developed countries.In Bangladesh, the practice of working part-time is common. But generally it was preferred by the male students. They used to work in different private offices or as a private tutor to manage their pocket money and daily expences. Female students used to be dependent on their families or peers. With the growing necessities of life and changing social and cultural context, women are coming out of their shells for joining the workforce and enhancing a better future by achieving success. They are getting involved in more or less every work competing with men and proving themselves in every aspect at workplace with their male counterparts. Girls are becoming more enthusiastic in taking education from primary to higher level. Some female students are also trying to earn their pocket money, contributing to their academic fees, carrying out daily expenses or simply just engaging themselves in productive activities. Therefore, they are choosing part-time jobs besides their studies. I would like to ….. RESEARCH QUESTIONS I plan to find out the problems of female part-time workers in my research.
