When a topic becomes popular among many, such as a movie, TV show, etc., these people can join together online and share their enjoyment. Often referred to as “fandoms”, the members of these interconnected communities can easily interact with one another. In her study on youth and the digital world, Mizuko Ito calls this interaction “geeking out” (Ito), where groups dive into a topic and engage with each other.
