Clothing of the Elizabethan Era. Renaissance Fashion was the unique and bold plus it showed what social class you were in, also Shakespeare’s costumes had a big impact in fashion. People all over the world wear different types of clothing. Clothes today can range from expensive to non-expensive, sort of like back then. People today aren’t judged by what type of clothing they wear, but back then they were because it showed what rank they were in. The Renaissance clothes had much variety’s starting from simple to elegant. Simple was for the poor or the middle class and the elegant was for the higher class. Depending on the person, fashion was something you had to maintain to show the rank they were in. A lot of things inspired Renaissance clothing such as architecture and natural fibers. “Fashions in clothing often show fascinating similarities with the architecture of the period.” (Elgin, 20) A lot of the way clothes were designed was by architecture. As for the natural fibers, “From the earliest times four natural fibers, cotton, flax, silk, and wool was used in a great variety of forms has been the mainstay of dress of mankind everywhere. (Ewing, 8) Those were what clothes were made of. In the next paragraph women’s clothing is a big part of the materials and architecture. Women’s fashion took a big part in Renaissance fashion because there was a certain way they had to look from their body figure to their clothes in general. For their body shape they used a special piece of clothing to get an hour glass shaped figure. “Rigid corsets or stiffened undergarments gave the women a prominent chest, a very narrow waist, and extended buttocks, bolstered with padding.
