And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not to find god” (Walker 188). In some ways I agree with Shug but in others I disagree. I agree that church is about sharing God with others. On the other hand, I disagree with her when she says that people don’t go to church to find God.
I have been brought up in a very mixed society but in a Church of England school where religious education was compulsory, however we still studied various other religions and were taught to respect all people, and their beliefs. Prayers were a daily thing at the end of each assembly and whether or not I wanted to pay attention to the prayer time again I had to respect the people that did. Religion may affect people in many different ways, mainly because we all come from different backgrounds and are taught differently. However, it is important to respect how people honour their religion. I am an atheist however I still make time to talk to my clients about their religion and sometimes have prayer time with them, even though my own beliefs it is not something that I choose to do as I know it makes the client happy it makes me happy to do this as I know it is something that they feel so strongly in.
A lot of people in the world don’t like who they are or what they’ve become for many reasons such as: looks, weight, personality, family, job, etc. Whatever the reason may be few people in this world wouldn’t change a thing about themselves, I’m one of those people. I’ve learned to accept all my flaws and realize god made me his way for a reason. If I were to change anything about myself, even the
Many examples in the book made me consider perspectives that I had never thought of before. In my opinion, this book definitely stirred up a reassurance of my place in society and what can be done to liberate the oppressed. I believe the voices represented in this book can cause negative reactions from some churches because it goes against what is and has been normal. Churches would not really like to change the view of “white” Christ to be a diverse Christ of another race because it would change certain aspects and power. The church is called to be one diverse body of God, but as churches can remain dominant to one race, it becomes difficult to incorporate diversity into what already is established.
In America we are so diverse and we have a lot of different religions to choose from as well as some people who don’t believe in anything at all. I was raised in the church and have a deep relationship with God. State administrators are not permitted to encourage or discourage religion. Some people may find your beliefs offensive because it is not the same belief they have. Certain issues are more sensitive than others and the topic of religion is one of them.
Religion at one time was very touchy subject in many cultures around the globe, as the world progressed more people became open to religion. Theses effects have lead to a society overflowing with religious moderates. Religious moderates are people who aren't fundamentalists and don't interpret their religious scripture in a literal context. They have tolerance for other religions and beliefs and believe that no faith should be forced upon you. Sam Harris discusses religious moderates and their dogmatic views in his article “The First Ten Pages.” Harris argues that they are the “instability” in our society because moderates believe in something without having factual evidence to prove it.
Oscar Cruz Jr. Cruz 1 BG Guttierez ENGL 2327 23 February, 2012 Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God In the story Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God in holds a sermon on how your life should be led to with several techniques he tries to grab your attention with his grace and how you would go to heaven. Not everybody believes in god but in my point of view I believe that with the will of the lord everything is possible. Jonathan Edwards throughout the readings tried to scare the readers on how god can do things to people or grasp their life in any part of their time. It shouldn’t be understood in that way because in the bible I reads that god will come for you at the time he is ready. There is no need to be scared to go to heaven because heaven is a better and more peaceful place.
Humans lack true worship for a few reasons. People forget the character of God. Tozer said “Every glimpse that is given us of heaven and of God’s created being is always a glimpse of worship and rejoicing and praise because God is who he is.” He mentions materialism and how man is too attached to this
It seems like they are involved with a lot of political issues before such as abortion, which they oppose but I can understand King’s confusion and frustation about his self entitlement to the church. He still loves the church it is just that they are part of the white moderate that say wait it will be fine instead of taking direct action like the church used to do. The church needs more spiritual leaders or movements for segregation because God would not think segregation is morally right. 4. He is sick of the White moderate the most because he had so much hope that they would help but disappointment is what happened and it is really sad to see that.
Plastic surgery is very interesting. Not that I have had plastic surgery, but can you imagine not being able to fix anything and have to live life with insecurities or scars because of what you did or was born with? People have their beliefs and religion plays a big role. Some people depending on their religion believe God made us this way so why should we change? There is over hundreds of plastic surgery procedures out there now compared to the early years.
