Relevance of the United Nations
          If anyone takes a look at events that happened in the world since the beginning of the 21st Century, one person would realize that many countries could have started world war III due to crisis among countries. If, the world still has some kind of relative peace, this is in part due to the United Nations.   The United Nations was created in 1945 after World War II and replaced the League of Nations.   Its primary purpose is to maintain peace around the world and promote dialogue among countries. The organization also promotes economic and social progress around the world through its branches. Despite the organization’s will to help crisis, it cannot always intervene as much as it wants. Consequently, some people have been questioning the relevance of keeping the United Nations.   Due to its overall positive influence on societies, the United Nations should keep functioning as it has done since 1945.
          First of all, the UN has an important place in political crisis. Since its beginning, it helped solved numerous conflicts around the world. For Example, the UN was successful in its action in the Korean War. The Organization was supposed to repel the North Korean army up to the 38th parallel (“Resolution Adopted by Security Council” 2). It helped both countries by getting them to sign an armistice, thus solving their conflicts. Such actions show how relevant the United Nations is.   It also played an important role in solving the Iran-Iraq war. In fact, the resolution 598 which called for a cease-fire between the two countries was enacted in 1987 (“The Situation between Iran and Iraq” 1). Even if the UN has often failed in some of its mission, everybody should acknowledge the effort to bring peace back. No organization has ever been successful in all its action, so it is important not to judge the UN solely on their failures.
