2.) t = −3.15 describes the difference between women and men for what variable in this study? Is this value significant? t= -3.15 describes the difference between men and women for the variable of mental health. This value is significant because 0.002 is less than the alpha type 1 error rate of 0.05 that was used.
Introducing an ally who resisted the majority caused conformity levels to drop sharply (5%). The presence of an ally makes an individual feel more confident and better able to stand up to the majority. Asch also discovered that people are better able to resist pressure to conform if the decision has a moral dimension. For Asch’s participants, the costs of conforming were not particularly great given the insignificance of the task. However if the behaviour is judged as immoral such as joining others in cheating there is less evidence of conformity as the costs are perceived as greater.
If they were to consolidate and attempt to strengthen their products or reap without investing the gains they would yield would be far less than if they were to spend the time and money to thoroughly develop new products. As there is not any specific information on the items in question in the decision branches I have to base my determination off of the market reactions and predicted gains of each branch. At the same time the developing thoroughly branch also has higher predicted gains on the good and moderate market reaction branches while also have a lower probability of poor market reaction than the other decision
The number of digits they had to recall was increased until the participant was unable to recall them accurately. His results found that the average digit span was five to nine items suggesting that the short term memory is limited. One limitation of Baddeley’s study into the capacity for the short term memory is that the study lack ecological validity. This is because the way in which the short term memory was used in the study did not correspond to how it is used in everyday life. This being said, the study does provide results in which can be analysed and as a result help to aid memory.
Psychologists believe that LTM has potentially unlimited capacity. The capacity of STM, however, has a very limited capacity. George Miller (1956) reviewed psychological research and concluded that the span of immediate memory is 5-9 items. He also found that people can recall 5 words; just as well as they can recall 5 letters, this is because if you chunk things together, they are easier to remember. However, more recently, Cowen (2001) refutes this theory, and concludes that STM is likely to be limited to about 4 chunks.
Introduction to Psychology PSY/201 November 12, 2010 Week7: Assignment Testing Intelligence This week’s assignment included taking an IQ test online. The test was composed of 30 multiple answer questions. The test result are as follows: General statistics Total number of questions: 30 Questions answered: 27 Questions not answered: 3 Questions answered correctly: 16 Questions answered incorrectly: 14 Percentage correct answers: 53 % I did not realize that this test had a time limit; therefor I did not get to answer three of the questions. My age adjusted IQ score is 101 and the average score for all test takers is 100. The results seemed to be accurate, although, on other IQ assessments, I have scored a bit higher around 130.
The independent group design could have meant, by chance, the group who were told to expect no negative withdraws, were naturally more determined people, thus increasing their chance of giving up anyway. Without a control group we cannot see how many people would have relapsed with no expectations being induced. Furthermore, self report methods were used when reporting withdrawal symptoms, which are subjective and could be influenced by demand characteristics, with people guessing the aim of the study and trying to give answers to help the experimenter. Another cognitive explanation is the self medicated model, which descried relapse as a result of the individual believing without their addiction they cannot cope, focus on a task or feel bored without their addiction to occupy them. For example a smoker may feel too stressed to function properly at work, therefore relapse and continual smoking occurred to reduce these negative
Myers (2005), explains, “Displacement is the redirection of aggression to a target other than the source of frustration. Generally, the new target is a safer or more socially acceptable target.” (p. 386). It is difficult to understand why people intentionally cause harm to others; however, it is even more complex to comprehend why an innocent third person would be targeted to express frustration. Several theories have emerged on the subject and they give us better insight into the psychology of displaced aggression. Conventional psychology suggested that displaced aggression was closely connected with low-self esteem.
Texting can affect your health, social skills, and education performance. Texting addiction can happen to anyone no matter the age. Kids as young as 12 are getting treatment for strain injuries that are caused by text addictions. Some kids ignore the injuries of sore wrists, thumbs, headaches, and shoulder pains. If left untreated for a long period of time, they may develop arthritis in the future according to Sunday Mail The Brisbane. In 2006 a survey by Virgin Mobile found 3.8 million people in Britain complained of injuries from text messaging according to Sydney Morning Herald.
Others would claim that an introverted person is shy, less talkative and is a loner. On the other hand, an extroverted person is highly interactive and is referred to as social beings. Some would also say that introverts are wiser than extroverts because they are sober-sided thinkers compared to extroverts who are unperceptive. This study aims to put clarifications and correct misconceptions about introverts and extroverts and explain how are their brains different from each other. Background on Introversion The term introvert
