Effective teacher A lesson plan is one of the key elements for an effective delivery of knowledge in classroom from a teacher to the learners. It is one of the feasible tools that any effective teacher should have each time they walk into a classroom to begin their daily duty. A lesson plan no doubt helps a teacher to efficiently manage his or her class and consequently command respect among his or her learners as well as to ensure that his or her learners grab the concepts with little difficulties. Just like water is important to a fish so is a syllabus to a lesson plan. The syllabus for school subjects is usually designed and developed centrally at national level by a government department and later distributed to schools throughout the country for implementation. In Zambia, for instance, the government department responsible for designing and development of the syllabus is the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC). The teacher’s role before walking into class to meet his or her pupils is to further break down the syllabus into a much smaller document called the scheme of work. The scheme of work is prepared at school level in different departments. The members of staff for each department meet before the commencement of a new term in order to plan the work to be covered for that particular term based on the available syllabus. When the scheme is ready and has been approved by the Head of Department, it is then reproduced and copies distributed to all the teachers in the department handling that particular
