My take from this movie? Fast food is of course VERY BAD for you but you have that choice not to eat it! Its not the fast food that makes you fat, it is the people that choose to eat it that makes them fat. Six months after the release of the movie in theatres, McDonalds did away with their supersize menu choice. They said it had nothing to do with the movie but I believe
GMO Salmon is genetically modified salmon. “The two grocery chains are now part of more than 9,000 stores across the country that have rejected carrying the GM AquAdvantage® salmon regardless of whether the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves it for public consumption, which it has not yet officially done.” (News Desk, 2014, par. 3) Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is management’s obligation to make choices and take actions that will contribute to the welfare and interests of society, not just the organization (Daft, 2012, p. 151). By making this non-programmed decision and choosing to not carry GMO Salmon Kroger clearly took a stand for the consumers. Ethical Issue Organization Has Faced In 2010, The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asked during a shareholder’s meeting, if Kroger Corporation had plans of using a less cruel way of slaughtering
Public health officials requested that the government ban trans-fat and reduce sodium levels, but the government made no attempt at changing or stopping the release of fatty foods. At one point the government had ideas of how to control sodium which would save on health care costs and lengthen lives but decided against it due to financial consequences. The government’s inactivity gave way to the increasing level of health issues and obesity in Canadians. Some Canadians realize that they are unhealthy, but don’t realize the food they eat is the cause. Because of the absence of labels most Canadian’s don’t even know the nutritional value of the food they eat.
Why did the Government not provide assistance for a mandatory evacuation? Why did the Government react so slowly in getting aid to those in need? Why did the levees break? In Spike Lee's two part, four hour long, epic documentary, When The Levees Broke, Lee ventures to answer all of these questions. By using proponents of 1960s direct cinema, Lee never appears on film and captures life unaware in an attempt to reveal the truth about such a cataclysmic event.
The first store was called Thrif D Discount Center, a health and beauty aids store, without a pharmacy. It was an offshoot of Rack Rite Distributors a subsidiary of his father-in law’s Lehrman & Sons which Alex Grass launched in 1958, that rented and stocked racks with health and beauty aids in grocery stores. In 1965 their 23rd store added a pharmacy and the company name was changed to Rite Aid. Through acquisitions and new stores, Rite Aid quickly expanded into 5 northeast states by 1965. The chain was officially named Rite Aid Corporation in 1968 and made its debut on the American Stock Exchange.
When Waksal found out that the FDA was going to reject ImClone’s application for approval of its cancer drug. It is believed that he told Martha about the rejection which they knew would eventually result in the company’s significant stock price drop. Martha sold about 4000 shares that she had and avoided loosing approximately $45,000. Martha and Waksal had a mutual broker, Peter Bacanovic from Merrill Lynch .Waksal tried to call Bacanovic but he did not reach him. He then called Bacanovic’s assistant Doug Faneuil and told him to sell the stock.
Trans Fat December 12, 2012 Trans Fat One of the ways Americans can avoid health problems caused by trans fat is for the government to heavily regulate trans fat. A couple of years ago consumers weren’t able to determine how much trans-fat was in products. Companies weren’t telling costumers how much of the hydrogenated oil ingredient was in their products. Because consumers weren't aware of this Americans were eating about five to six grams per day, Americans did not even know the damage they were making to their diet and also the health problem that would arise in the future. The daily amount recommended is less than 0.5 grams (Kalin, 2011).
America’s Aversion to the Obesity Epidemic In Greg Critser’s “Don’t Eat the Flan,” Critser states that our country’s obesity epidemic is caused by a lack of control. In other words it is caused by a lack of parenting or government control. Critser is correct that over the course of the past 20 years, suggesting a moral opinion or parental failure in relation to our country’s growing weight issues has been largely lacking in our national conversation. Critser’s main purpose in “Don’t Eat the Flan’ is to tell America that he thinks the problem is, that American’s have made telling your kids not to overeat because “it will make you fat,” leads to stigmatization”, then leading to eating disorders and low self-esteem (Critser). As this may be true, over eating has led to an even worse problem: obesity.

You won’t hear much about these important studies from Time Warner or Newsweek Magazine, who according to the fore mentioned author Brandenburg, had a 2002 cover story that read Why TV is Good for Kids. Keep in mind Newsweek is owned by the Washington Post Company, which owns a huge cable company and six broadcast stations in our country. I have a two year old. I have done what all mammals are designed to do; reproduce. The difference in people and animals is our ability to reason.
