An example of the sonnet from the book “BLUE. It’s a wonderful blue: not the blue of a cool lake, where rowboats glide into waves that greet them, splashing against the sides like high-fives. Not the blue of a ripe blueberry about to join its cousins in a plump blueberry pie, with all the berries snuggling up against each other, not the blue of the sky on a hot, windless summer day, when even the trees and the grass are caught napping. Its own blue, a wonderful blue, BLUE. This would very appropriate for children but not very young children.
Mindy Hamann Mr. Wetherbee Honors Sophomore Language Arts 19 September 2012 All Quiet on the Western Front Mini-Journals A. In the article “No News from Auschwitz”, many themes correlating the juxtaposition of nature and war can be applied to the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front. Such as when the article mentions daisies growing in the areas where gas chambers had been blown up. Also when the area is described as a sunny day, the trees were green and everything was bright (Rosenthal 412-413). The way that these joyous and comforting descriptions are mentioned in the same writings about Auschwitz really makes these statements pop out and make the reader have a double take when thinking about these matters.
Dragline, “Where’d the road go?” Luke, “That’s it. That’s the end of it.” Convict, “Man, there’s still daylight.” Dragline, “About two hours left.” Convict, “What do we do now.” Luke, “Nothin’.” Dragline, “Oh Luke, you wild, beautiful thing. You crazy handful of nothin’.” Luke singing a song, “Well, I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus, sittin’ on the dashboard of my car. Jeffrey Ware Joel Osteen The other day I ate some rather extraordinary Chinese food for lunch and, on my way out, grabbed a fortune cookie. I cracked it open and read a silly little proverb meant to inspire, I suppose. I wish it had said “Brisk uphill walk after all-you-can-eat buffet is a bad idea.” Never mind. As I waddled my way home, regretting that last plate of food (so delicious…), I thought “This fortune sounds like something Joel Osteen would say.” And then it struck me—there is very little difference between Joel and those fortune cookies (except that the cookies are delicious, of course). And now, to prove it, I will give you these twelve quotes.
God takes seven days to create the world how he wants, but on the contrary the creation of the world is done over a period of time in “The World on the Turtle's Back.” The world in Genesis is all good from the beginning instead of being both good and bad like in “The World on the Turtle's Back.” The two men get there by their grandmother who becomes too curious for her own good. She was pregnant with their mother and wanted bark from the sacred tree. In contrast Eve tastes the fruit from a tree that God has forbidden her to eat from, because she was tempted by the devil. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.” (Gen 3:6) In Genesis one may recall Eve had two sons, but by natural birth and by intercourse. “The World on the Turtle's Back” differs in that the two men are born by having arrows placed on their mother's chest.
