MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Since its inception in 1980 as an in-house training College for Tanzania Harbours Authority (THA) now Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Bandari College has been striving to offer quality training to employees and other stakeholders to enable them to acquire necessary and appropriate knowledge and skills to cope with the fast changing working environment which is constantly being influenced by changes both in the market forces and the ever dynamic technology developments. The operation of modern ports and allied industries require constant heavy investment both in machinery and human capital. Realizing this, TPA has assisted to ensure Bandari College is adequately equipped with the vital working gear and well staffed to cope with these demands. Likewise Bandari College has been constantly designing and implementing relevant course curricular to suit the needs of its stakeholders. Since the college started as an in house training facility for THA/TPA, employee’s training was sponsored by the employer and courses offered were mainly conventional to suit the needs of the latter. However with increasing demand and changes in the Tanzania employment sector, the number of candidates attending training at the college has changed from corporate to overwhelmingly private sponsorship. In order to keep abreast with these changes and meet the needs of trainees, the College has introduced evening class sessions since October 2009. After obtaining registration with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE), some of the conventional/traditional courses offered at the college have been modified and redesigned into a new curricular with up to date additional subject inputs to meet NACTE needs as follows; Operations Clerk ‘C’, ‘B’ and ‘A’ have been combined to become Basic Technician Certificate in Shipping and Port Operations (a one year course as first year entry to a...
