Red Scarf Girl By Ryan Woods The book Red Scarf Girl By Ji-Li Jiang is a true story based on a girl living through the Cultural Revolution. You see what she and her family have to go through and how tough it was to live during that time in China. Throughout the book people can be very compassionate to one another. Some of the people that were Bia Shan, Sun Lin Lin, and Chang Hong. One day when Ji-Li was at school they were going to begin their Morning Benediction and the teacher asked the students to take out their Precious Red Books. She looked into her bag and realized that she has forgotten her book. Then the next thing she knows she sees something, “ Something flashing red in front of me and the plastic cover of a Precious Red Book was in my hand. In relief I clutched the cove, which looked just like the red book from a distance, and waved my hand three times. ‘ Long Life Chairman Mao! Long Life! Long Life!’ I shouted with my classmates. I gratefully looked at my rescuer. To my surprise it was my classmate Sun Lin-Lin. Her thick reflected the light as she looked to the front. She repeated the change, waving her coverless Precious Red Book as if nothing every happened.” (P. 168) I thought that was really nice of Sun Lin-Lin to do that for Ji-Li. It probably really saved her because she could of gotten in a lot of trouble. Chang Hong and Ji-Li are talking and Chang Hong heard that Ji-Li was going to do some summer labor in the factories instead of in the countryside. Ji-Li was going to do that because to because her mother was vey ill and her grandmother was too old to take care of the kids and the mother. She thought that if she worked in the factory then she could work and take care of her mom. Chang Hong disagrees and says, “ This is a crucial moment for you! How could you ask to work in a factory instead? I was really worried for you when I heard
