Reaction Paper: Vasari’s: Lives of the Artists: Michelangelo Buonarroti As the article says, Michelangelo earned his reputation through the statue of Pieta. That’s why through this, Pope Julius summoned Michelangelo to Rome to build his tomb. Michelangelo did what he was asked and has built a beautifully crafted tomb. After a short time, he was asked to paint the Sistine Chapel, which is very famous today because of his masterpiece painted along the ceiling of the chapel. At first he was reluctant for he thinks he lacks experience, but the Pope’s persistence made him work on the soon-to-be one of the greatest masterpieces in the world. He sought the for the help of great artists like himself like Granaccio, Giuliano Bugiardini, Jacopo di Sandro, the elder Indaco, Angelo di Donnino, and Aristotile. He asked them to make samples of the work, but none of these seemed to fit what he wants for the chapel. Therefore, he decided to work on the chapel by himself. It took him a very long while to finish, and on the process, he wouldn’t let anyone in the chapel, not even the Pope to check on his progress. He was paid three thousand crowns for every installment, which he used on different colors. So basically, what he painted on the chapel was the stories in the Bible starting from the creation, and anyone could say that it was astonishingly done just by reading the article. “What a happy age we live in!” says the article.
