Competency was frequently employed to determine staff skills against the requirements of a position. It was also used to support staff development, as a tool to facilitate individual performance review, and to identify the ongoing professional development needs of individual staff (Baker R., 2003). Each staff in the ward should have their own competencies on functional, team and organization effectiveness according to their different levels of position including Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse and all the supporting staff working in hospital. Since the competency of each level of staff is embracing or adding on to that below, being an APN, he or she should familiarize with each level’s core competency in order to lead and supervise them to ensure the high standard of care in the ward. According to World Health Organization, “standard of care” is defined as a generally accepted level of care or set of processes that all practitioners should follow in dealing with a specific patient or disease.

Comparison of Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Povidone Iodine in central line catheter care Introduction: Evidence based practice: Globally, nursing is one of the most honorable professions among healthcare providers. Nursing is caring, which focuses on patients’ comfort and nurses act as advocators. An advocate means a person who defends or argues for the rights of others (Oman Nursing and Midwifery Council (ONMC) 2011). For example, a nurse might face a situation which needs his/her advocacy skills to fight for the patients’ right. Therefore, nurses should be up to date with knowledge, skills and attitude by introducing significant evidence into their practice (ONMC 2011).
A1. Quality improvement (QI) consists of systematic and continuous actions that lead to measurable improvement in health care services and the health status of targeted patient groups. An organizations current system is defined as “how things are done now”, health care performance is defined by an organization's efficiency and outcome of care, and level of patient satisfaction. Areas of focus for quality improvement include: focusing on the patient care and satisfaction, staff members working together as a team, and improving workflow/billing output. To make improvements, an organization needs to understand its own delivery system and key processes.
Such perspective demands are necessary for the planning of continuous performance improvement. Implementing and utilizing plans that are put into place will help the organization to achieve the desired result of operating smoothly. The responsibilities that a health care manager faces today can be challenging and overwhelming. With the knowledge that I have received from this course, I want to be able to incorporate all the roles into the tasks that a health care manager faces daily. I wish to also be able
Quality Management Assessment Summary HCS/451 Quality Management Assessment Summary The health field has many different parts that help make it run smooth; one important factor is quality management. Quality management in healthcare has evolved over the year to address increased demands from consumers related to the quality of care and services, as well as to address problems in patients’ outcomes (McLaughlin, & Kaluzny, 2006). Quality management is best described as a systematic and continuous process that organizations use to deliver products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations (McLaughlin, & Kaluzny, 2006). The following assessment will help in defining quality care, and mention key concepts of quality management that are used within a nursing facility. The following assessment will also help with making some short and long-term goals, and will also target any internal and external factors that may affect the nursing facility to reach any potential and set goals.

Treatments and procedures can be very different depending on the situation, and the comparative effectiveness research system develops the most effective approach to every situation. There are many benefits of having a comparative effectiveness research system in today’s society. The two most important benefits of the comparative effectiveness system are the improvement in quality care and cost of healthcare. In a 2009 report by the Institute of Medicine, it was stated that, “comparative effectiveness research provides an opportunity to improve the quality and outcomes of health care by providing more and better information to support decisions by the public, patients, caregivers, clinicians, purchasers and policy makers” (Jonas, 281). This system has demonstrated that expensive medical therapies don’t have to be used to treat patients.
The nurse should reflect a high degree of professionalism to patients, the public, and other professionals. Teamwork is a major characteristic of professional nursing. Many times nurses will need assistance helping their patients, and people will be more apt to lend a helping hand if you yourself go out of your way to help others. This not only helps your coworkers but in the long run provides faster more efficient care for the patients. Teamwork may be one of the most important professional characteristics in healthcare.
Better Teamwork, Better Patient Care Sabrina Haight Baker College of Cadillac Better Teamwork, Better Patient Care A health care team has a duty to provide effective, quality care in order to enhance the health and well-being of its patients. Every professional on that team has different roles to play in providing that standard of care. These roles range from CNA to nurse to physician, with many other interdisciplinary roles as well, like paramedic, respiratory therapist, or social worker. Each person has distinct expertise and skills to contribute that can be applied to the patient’s care. Organization and cooperation must be integrated into the team to ensure that needs of the patient are adequately met.
