Reaction Paper Pygmalion was a very talented sculptor. His pieces were adored by every man and women since he can sculpt life-like pieces out from ivory. Aside from being grand in his art, he is a fine good looking man. However, his deep devotion from his art did not spare him time to appreciate the beauty of a real woman. He believes that only his crafts were the real beauty and he vowed that he will never marry. Then, there came a time when Pygmalion carved a woman of unparalleled beauty and he named it as Galatea. He fell in love with his work and even desired this to be his wife. The festival of Aphrodite came. On the day of festival, Pygmalion prayed to the goddess that he would find a woman like Galatea although his heart truly desires his ivory work. Pygmalion considered his sculptures as the only beauties in the world. And because he didn't believe he could love anyone, he created a sculpture so beautiful that no living woman could compare or compete with it. When it comes to what or how Pygmalion really feels about Galatea, I firmly believe it is more of an obsession or adoration rather than love. Galatea served as an object of desire for Pygmalion. Mainly because, it is only the immediate beauty of Galatea that Pygmalion really appreciated. Extending his uncontrollable persistence towards Galatea a bit further, he prayed to Aphrodite that he turn the statue into a living woman. Aphrodite then served as the medium for Pygmalion's wish to come true. So by that time, Aphrodite, who also fell in love with Pygmalion's work, did not just turned the ivory maiden into a real human being but, she also turned Pygmalion's concrete and material love towards Galatea into a deeper, intangible and abstract
