Pursuit of Happyness paper In the beginning of the movie,, the Gardner family is in a financially depriving situation in which they are severely desperate for money. Chris’s wife works extra shifts in order to provide the minimum amount of currency needed to survive and own a home. The entire situation is due to Chris’s faith in his product, which is a bone density machine that hospitals only saw as eyecandy, not as revolutionary products. Chris invested an entire savings on production of this product, and as a result, put his family in jeopardy because he could not sell any. Chris changes this instance when he acquires a job as a stockbroker, and quickly learns the ropes of the occupation. He learns to pursue his dream. The turning point of the movie is when Chris decides to pursue the dream of being a stockbroker by not calling on the lower fund managers as he has been instructed, but calling the CEO instead. Chris has the insight that if he continues to move up the list of names, calling on the lower echelon managers, it's going to be real easy for them to say no, because Chris has no credibility. But, by calling on the boss, and being just seen in his office, Chris recognizes that the CEO doesn't need the approval of all those people below him on the list, and even if the CEO says no, just being associated with him -- and being able to use his name -- gives Chris credibility with all those on the list that haven't yet said no to him. The CEO never gives him business, but other fund managers end up giving him business. Through this action, Chris and his family learn the meaning of the word “pursuit.” They all learn that pursuing a dream, taking the necessary steps to come closer to a certain goal, requires increasing a probability of a possibility through the actions deemed worthy of completion.
