The key purposes are to achieve change based on collective community action to bring about equality and inclusion. it includes identifying the communities needs, opportunities and rights. The work involves reaching out to the community for guidance to establish the needs and priorities and suggest how to achieve these goals. Community development work includes planning, organising and taking action. This is a long-term approach where the people affected are supported by taking action to achieve solutions. It challenges the current situation, resulting in collective social change. Timing is important and it is essential to correctly shape the decision making issues. It is required to evaluate the impact of the action. Community development work uses evaluation to learn if current organisations/ activities contribute to the set goals and how to improve the effectivness and well being of the community. Evaluation allows members to know what resourses are required and can monitor progress made. All of these key purposes challenge oppressions and ackle inequalities. Although community development methods are apolitical, each political ideology holds certain suspicions of its key purpose. The Right believe it is a mechanism for pushing a hidden agenda whereas the Left perceive its purpose is a subtle means of social control.
