Rather than rely on advertising, he would get top athletes to endorse his shoes, and then let his sales force sell the product. His strategy and the timing of the launch couldn't have been better. That summer, the Olympic track and field trials were held in Eugene, Oregon, with none other than Bill Bowerman as coach of the American Olaympic team. Knight took full advantage of the opportunity, putting Nikes on the feet of several top finishers. When they made national television, so did the shoes they were wearing.
Michael Jordan had a remarkable beginning when joining the draft because he excelled in basketball in college and in the Olympics in 1984. Nike found this an opportunity to market Michael Jordan since Nike had a hard time entering the basketball industry. This was a success for 3M entering the golf market with their new grip technology but they were ready to branch out to other sport and leisure ideas. As an employee at 3M, I would envision the Greptile technology to be introduced in other sports and leisure areas. These areas would include soccer goalie gloves, weight lifting gloves, tennis gloves, football gloves and bike gloves (motorcycling or bicycling). These areas are all popular sports and activities that involve using gloves for protection. This new grip technology should be popular in sports that need a good grip to increase athletic ability.

Until there is a playoff structure, the anticipation of the top 25 every year will keep me running wild with emotions of anger and thrills. Sometimes the system gets it right sometimes they get it wrong, but they have always been consistent. For me, I believe the Bowl Championship Series has been, and will always be, the best solution for college football. Keep it in perspective; college football is a treat not a priority. As far as a true national champion, as fans argue for, we have it every year, and I am content with the BCS selection show.

The essay “We, the Public, Place the Best Athletes on Pedestals” by William Moller talks about how most athletes and students use performance enhancing drugs in order to achieve their goals. The team seams to rally around the quote “left side, strong side,” as DeMott writes, “such dialogue is the stuff of romance” (DeMott 568). And after they come together and win the state championship the movie gives the viewer the sense that the town came together and there was no racism when in fact after the season was over and the post-victory glow had wore off the town returned to be racist as ever. This “beatifies the impulse to turn away from the real-life agenda of actions capable of reducing racial injustice” (DeMott 573). This movie also credits the team’s success to the team’s ability to overcome their racial differences while downplaying the fact that there were several All-Americans on the team.
