Why do you think public speaking is important for an IT professional? How might addressing an IT audience be different than addressing a general occasion?
For an IT professional public speaking is important because they will need to discuss with the stakeholders what the system will need. Most business will ask for a proposal that will need to be presented to the board of directors to gain their approval. If the IT presents a good proposal then the board will approval the project because they understand what it entails.
When an IT professional is addressing their audience they will use a professional persuasive tone with the customer. They will be professional and straight forward to get the point across to the audience.
What are some opportunities for improvement in your speaking skills? What would you like to learn how to do? What problems would you like to overcome?
For me my speaking skills need improvement in the way I look at the audience. I will need to keep looking at the audience and not looking around as this can be distracting to the audience. Staying focused on a spot in the center of the audience with the occasional look to either side will be appropriate.
To stay focused and not to ramble on with the speech. If the speech turns to an impromptu speech keeping on track is key to not losing the audience.
Stammering during the speech. Losing concentration as well can be an issue.
What classes in speech and related fields, such as journalism or English, have you had here or at other schools?
I have had public speaking in high school. I also did a lot of public speaking while in high school and acted in a play or two.
What kinds of speaking experiences have you had in your jobs, religious organizations, extracurricular activities, or other...
