Reflection Paper The areas coursework that will be the most useful to me in my future career as an organizational communication professional are how to prepare press releases and writing crisis statements. Most companies depend on press in one way or another. I feel that knowing how, why and when to prepare a press release gives me an invaluable tool to have in my future career. Press releases are not only used when there is a crisis by they are also used when a new product is launched by a company. Press releases are an important part of making or breaking a company’s image. A crisis plan has become an essential part of the professional business world. Previous disasters have shown the people of the world that it is better to prepare for worst case scenario than to have no preparation at all. After all we have seen what can happen when a company or state is unprepared for the worst case scenario. An excellent example of not being prepared was Louisiana when hurricane Katrina forced the levees to break. I found it interesting that there are not more companies that have written crisis plans just in case. I had assumed that every company and state would have some sort of plan in place. The concept that was new to me was writing a proposal. I have written a proposal for a new item or for a marketing plan but I have never done one such as we did. I found myself really confused on to what the proposal should or should not include. I looked for other examples of proposals to see what was included and I found myself getting more confused because each proposal I looked at had so many different headings and information to go with the headings. It became clear to me that it must depend on what the proposal is for which determines what information is included.
