Timothy Dr. Isabella English 112 A Psychoanalytical Analysis Of Edger Allen Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" In Edger Allen Poe's short story, "The Tell-Tale Heart" the narrator is suffering from several dreadful disorders that enables the narrator to not just rationalize ,but enjoy doing monstrous things to people, but you be the judge. The three most dominating disorders the narrator is suffering from are Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), and Schizophrenia. These disorders fall into two different disorder classifications. OCD or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, falls into the classification of an Anxiety Disorder. Antisocial Personality Disorder or (ASPD) and Schizophrenia fall into the classification of a Psychotic Disorder. In this analysis of "The Tell-Tale Heart," there will be several examples of how the actions of the narrator are "text book" examples of Anxiety and Psychotic Disorders. The first disorder that the narrator gave perfect example of is OCD. "OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry; by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety; or by a combination of such obsession and compulsion" ("Obsessive-compulsive disorder"). Now to better understand all that let us look into what mainly drives and individual with OCD. The driving force of the disorder of OCD is obsession. OCD can effect many different people many different ways ,but there is one thing they all have in common. They are all driven by some kind of obsession, whether it be locking the door three times before they can comfortably leave their home unattended or whether it be scrubbing floors and walls everyday, they all share an obsession in something. Now for the person in mind, the narrator, his obsession was the old mans eye and doing whatever it takes
