Food is very important part of our life. It is used to reenergize us, satisfy our taste, and bring family and friends together at the dining table. People used to grow their own food in their farms and backyards, but now most of us get it from grocery stores. Seldom we wonder how it was grown, handled, and shipped, but this is very crucial in eating right. Good food need to be processed in a honest way; it is grown by farmers and processed by food industry officials and workers who care about their customers. To create good food for all of us to enjoy and stay healthy, the laws that restrict unhealthy processing of food and strong enforcement are essential. It is more important than any other change in the food industry because its effect on the consumers is most direct and prominent. Today, food industry is oriented toward making the most profit and expending the least cost rather than making good food for the consumers. Often times, they use the methods and ingredients that either increase the production or allure the consumers to buy their product but are harmful to the consumers. This problem begins with the production in farms. Nowadays, various types of artificial chemicals are used for economical purposes in farm. They are generally used to eliminate problems in production but there are side effects that may be detrimental to consumers’ health. For example, DDT, a common pesticide used in farming, causes Diabetes and interferes regular developmental and reproductive process; it is also suspected to be carcinogenic, causing various types of cancer. Drugs used to grow healthier crops and stocks can also be problematic. Antibiotics injected into pigs and cattle help the stocks stay healthy and prevent them from dying from disease, but the consumers who eat the meat will get unnecessary antibiotic substances, which cause rapid evolution of antibiotic-resistant
