His tone is singularly effective—wild, plaintive, thoughtful, and in full accordance with his themes... We look upon him as one of the few men of indisputable genius to whom our country has as yet given birth". Nathanael was a well-respected man and even Author Herman Melville dedicated his great novel Moby Dick to Mr. Hawthorne. I learned many interesting facts about Mr. Nathanael Hawthorne, but the one thing I absolutely loved was he was intelligent, inspiring, exhilarating, and inspirational when he wrote. The one novel I love and happened to read was The Scarlet Letter, It was about a red letter “A “being sewn onto a woman’s dress for adultery and was considered sinful. Can you imagine if we had the scarlet letter now days?
Critics thought of him and his work as a good poet and an even better writer who made a major difference in the Harlem renaissance. Harold Bloom thought that “Thomas hardy, with his acute sense of life’s ironies, might have admired Sterling Brown’s Rain Which Precedes Robert Penn Warren in reviving Hardy’s Sprit” (5). Blyden Jackson a critic of the time likes Sterling Brown because he is a great poet and how Brown uses dialect with precision. David Littlejohn said that “Brown Attempted to do for the south what Langston Hughes did for the north” (Bloom 19). People thought that Brown’s irony was sharp, his ideas were exciting, and he was not only and protestor of his time but one of the first times.
They both explore the theme of love or rather painful love. the poet revels the link between the two poems’s through a verity of techniques which is done very effectively but also shows the difference between the obsessive love in “Havisham” and the possessive love of “Valentine”. The pain of love is evident from the beginning in both poems. “Carol Ann Duffy” uses the tone in the first couple of stanzas to show the unorthodox nature of the love. “Not a day since then I haven’t whished him dead”-Havisham This is very effective as the aggressive tone shows “Havisham” has been rejected and her love is causing her pain.
In William Blake’s Bible, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell he claims “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite” an assertion that embodies his own aim; to “cleanse” of those “mind forg’d manacle” which limit human creativity. Blake was an Artiste Extraordinaire whose expertise lay in engraving; his illustrations of the Bible and Dante’s Divine Comedy are well recognized around the world. And through his ‘illuminated printing’ he was able to attain an income, however small it was. Though his real passion lay in poetry, a passion which has engendered considerable critical acclaim, modern critics praise him as one of the greatest poets in the English language. Although his rebellious nature isolated him from his concurrent society, he was often regarded by his contemporaries as mad; however this isolation aided him in his censure of society’s faults.
Cloudstreet a unfading literature piece that spans from 1943 - 1963. Australia during that time was Male dominated, women were undervalued and inferior because of their sexuality, they were constricted to the walls of their homes. Tim Winton how ever presents the women of the novel the ‘backbone’ in the hectic and shapeless lives of the two families, the Lambs and the Pickles. The women are responsible for the families function, and they cannot escape how they must take lead from the Men in the novel “ “there [is] something wrong with men. They lacked some basic thing.” Rose Pickles is a proud young woman, she is smart and witty but was forced to grow up too fast.
It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved anyone except me” (137) Gatsby is telling of how Daisy Buchanan is no longer loyal to Tom and how she now wants him back because he has run into money. Through Daisy, F. Scott Fitzgerald use of this character to exposes the new class that only wants to party and spend money. Daisy herself is old money locked in to the life of fortune.“But what gave it an air of breathless intensity was that Daisy lived there-it was as casual a thing to her as his tent out at camp was to him. There was a ripe mystery about it, a hint of bedrooms upstairs more beautiful and cool than other bedrooms, of gay and radiant activities taking place through its corridors and of romances that were not musty and laid away already in lavender but fresh and breathing and redolent of this year’s shining motorcars and of dances who’s flowers were scarcely withered” (155-156). This is proof that Daisy is in it for the money and is now leaving Tom Buchanan for Jay Gatsby.
The prenatal Cash was a part of her, someone inside of her from whom she could never isolate herself. In the reluctant mother’s mind, Anse Bundren was to blame for corrupting her sense of privacy and would be forever dead to her. In this way, she severed what was supposed to be the most sovereign relationship in a woman’s life and created a rift through what was to come of the Bundren family. As the family grows, Addie develops misconceptions about her relationship to her children. Cash had violated her aloneness, while Darl was deprived of the love that Addie poured so strongly into the void that was her third son.
One of the secrets held from society in Fahrenheit 451 is that there is a war about to happen in the outside world. They also never get to experience the love of a real family. The only family that Mildred considers her own is one on a television show. Mildred’s friends are thankful for the “families” they already have. Mrs. Bowles says how kids aren’t worth anything and that they are just a pain.
Antigone , a true and more convincing heroine , is able to die proud of her actions while Othello can take only horrific regret to his grave Antigone 's tragic life has been predestined by her parentage she asks her sister Ismene .can you think of any of all the evils that stem from Oedipus that Zeus does not bring to pass for us , while we yet live (Sophocles 181 . This relates back to being an unwanted child, because flowers are beautiful and to Baby these fake nails are probably beautiful. She never had anyone tell her what was beautiful and what was not because of the fact that her father was not there for her the way a father should be, and he made her feel unwanted and not to mention, she also grew up without a mother. Conflict is a major literary element used in this novel. O’Neill makes that come to life through many different quotes, such as “I hoped that part of his therapy wasn’t to give up his interest in me” (67). This is conflict because already Jules makes Baby feel like she is not loved and that she is unwanted and to her the fact that while he is at this rehabilitation center, trying to get better, he might forget about her and make her feel more unwanted, than she already is.
