Analyzing Resource Allocations and Assignments PM586ON – Professor Orr According to the project schedule, the Huntsville Plant Project will definitely be ready by the June 30, 2012 deadline set by the board of directors. In fact, it seems as if the project will finish slightly earlier on June 8, 20102. This presumption however, comes without determining the slack on the critical path. The critical path of this project starts with the activity of creating a pre-production plan which follows with establishing a building concept. Next there is the activity of creating the building design and procuring the site permits and approvals. These two activities flow into constructing the building which then leads to installing the equipment, performing the pre-production run, performing the production set-up and then finally beginning distribution. All of these activities are highlighted in red on our diagram and make up the critical path. As the current project schedule stands, the deadline of having the Huntsville Plant built and operating, June 30, 2012, is going to be met on target. However, if things seemed as if they were running behind schedule, one idea would be to look at the activities with free slack. Free slack is the amount of time a specific activity can be postponed without delaying the earliest start time of its immediately succeeding activities (Successful Project Management, 159). If one of more activities has free slack, then instead of delaying the start, they might think about adding that extra time onto an activity that looks like it might jeopardize the project being completed on time. According to the project schedule, the Facility Specialist is the only resource that is being over-allocated. A total of 66s hours are being used between April 2011 and April 2012.
