Professional Ethics and Values Fathy Mohamed Carolina Ocampo Jacqueline Richards University of Phoenix Foundations for General Education and Professional Success GEN200 Instructor: E.M.Prexl February 01, 2010 Professional Ethics and Values Values and ethics are the key to any individual or an organization. Values and ethics are defined by what is right and what is wrong. How should people live? Should any individual aim at happiness or at knowledge? If an individual chooses happiness, will it be their own happiness or the happiness of all? One of the most particular questions that everyone faces: is it right to be dishonest in a good cause? Can it be justify living in wealth whereas elsewhere in the world people are starving? Ethics deal with such questions at all levels that by behaving ethically is to behave in a dependable manner with what is right or morale. Moreover, the relationship between these two topics will influence in the individual’s career choices and success significantly in life. Values can be defined as a principle or quality that could be attractive to an individual. Each individual has a personal code of values and is a set of characteristics or behaviors that are critically important to the individual character, not something that the person want or would to have. But it is something that the individual need in life to be happy. Values are personal; they are convictions, beliefs, and ethics rolled into one. The individual personal code of values could be identical to the individual’s family’s values or maybe they are radically different, developing with the person life’s experiences and insights. Ethics is the rational and systematically study that conclusions seek to be exact, this means the right or wrong behavior of a human being.
