The responsibilities of a modern nurse vary greatly compared to a nurse 50 years ago. As Hooper states, “Traditional nursing roles are changing, merging, and evolving on a constant basis.”(Hooper, 2006) Due to this evolvement and constant change, the student must remain aware of these new advances in the healthcare to remain efficient in the job. For the new nurse the challenge may be exciting while for another nurse this may feel overwhelming. The nurse taking on a new challenge must be able to identify barriers, manage their time and use their resources to succeed. The nurse must set short term and long term goals to assist with managing time. Keeping focused on the goal makes the journey for the nurse more feasible. Identifying short term and long term goals both professionally and personally, will allow the nurse to have a clearer vision of the overall outcome.
Personal Philosophy
When choosing a career it demonstrates pathway to life. The nurse may believe that his or her calling was to become a nurse while others may recall an experience with his or her loved one that he or she can relate, that interested them in nursing. Regardless the reason or reasons to becoming a nurse many will agree the love and passion to help another human being made them choose nursing. Nurses do what every honored citizen would do if they saw someone in trouble and that is assisting them in a time of need. A nurse values his or her patient’s life as if the patient was a loved one. Nurses value life, health, and accept death as nature’s course. His or her are the patient’s only salvation at times.
Achievement of goals
