Productive and Counterproductive Behavior Louis Daily Productive and Counterproductive Behavior Productive and counterproductive behaviors affect the operations of all organizations on a daily basis. Those employed by an organization come to work each day with choices to make. They have the choice whether to perform at their best or worst at their job. They also have to choose whether to approach the job with positive or negative attitudes and actions throughout their employment with the organization. The decisions made by employees whether to demonstrate productive or counterproductive behaviors influence individual job performance and the performance of the organization. First it is important to understand the definition of both productive and counterproductive behaviors. Following the definition, the influence on the organization will be discussed. Then strategies will be recommended which will allow for an increase in productive behavior and a decrease in counterproductive behavior. An organization that fully comprehends the definitions of productive and counterproductive behavior and the influence each has on an organization should recognize the importance in implementing suggested strategies. Effective strategies would increase productive behavior and decrease counterproductive behavior within an organization, leading to likely success for that organization.
