Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal
General Purpose: To Persuade
Specific Purpose: My audience will be able to identify the reasons why same sex marriage should be legal.
Central Idea/Thesis: Same sex marriage is often opposed in society based on people’s own personal beliefs or for religious matters but there are different factors to look at such as equality, discrimination, and the feelings of gays themselves who are being banned from their own happiness.
I. Same sex marriage has been one of the most controversial subjects in America for many years now.
II. If you ask just about anyone, they most likely would say that yes homosexuals should have equal rights as we all do. They should have the same rights in housing, jobs, equal protection of the law, etc.
III. Discrimination is a major factor of hate also, and in most instances, if something seemed unfair to an African American or any race for that matter, the issue would be reported right away. Then we get to same sex marriage, and all these ideas are thrown out the window! But why?
Transition: Now let’s try to understand the problem.
I. If one of your friends, family members, or loved ones decided to turn gay would you love them any less? Would you disown them? Some might do just so, but the majority of us would not. Then jus how important would this subject be to those of you who oppose it? Nobody deserves to be alienated because of their sexual preference.
A. Personally, I am heterosexual, but I know enough people who are homosexual. Recently, my aunt came out that she is gay. She was previously married and has 5 kids. She now has a girlfriend and is happy. All the family accepts her for who she is and if she decides that this is the person she is willing to be with for the rest of her life who are we to judge her or forbid her from doing so?
B. People have many different ideas on why two gays should not be married. Including but not...
