Principles underpinning practice in the Early Years Sector – Explain what the following are:- • Every Child Matters This was created in 2003 after the Lloyd Laming Report into the death of Victoria Climbie. It focused on 4 key themes:- 1-Supporting children and families 2-Early intervention 3-Accountability and integration of services 4-Raising profile of sectors workforce This identified flaws in agencies and the lack of communication and shared information between these agencies and every other party which are involved. Every Child Matters identify 5 major outcomes reflects the 54 rules and regulations administered from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. These outcomes are: *-Be healthy *-Stay safe *-Enjoy and achieve *-Make a positive contribution *-Achieve economic well-being • Common Core The Common core is when everyone working with children and young people including families and carers, must have a common set of essential basic skills and knowledge which covers 6 areas to form basis of any professional in-house training. These are identified as:- 1) Effective communication and engagement 2) Child and young person development 3) Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child 4) Supporting transitions 5) Multi-agency working 6) Sharing information These are to ensure that we all work consistently together with the help of their families and carers so that children and young people can achieve the 5 outcomes which are identified in the “Every Child Matter”. • Sector Principles and values The main purpose for these 3 Principles and 9 values are there for those working with children and young people and their families, together with other agencies and communities to maintain environments and services to
