Looking good & clean can boost the person’s ego & their respect among others. The person whose body is clean hardly gets infected. Personal hygiene involves keeping the skin, nails & hair in good shape as well as keeping your clothes clean. Personal hygiene is also important as it clears discomfort & odors that might discomfort others & make friends to isolate you.
A stomach bug introduced to a care home can quickly spread between residents and staff. This can cause more serious illness and can complicate other medical conditions. Good personal hygiene can greatly reduce the risk of spreading infection. Some basic principles are:- Wash your self regularly and wash your hair, do not wear personal jewelry, especially when undertaking personal care, keep you clothes and shoes clean, wash your hands regularly, wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing or smoking. Using PPE like gloves and aprons also helps reduce the spread of infection.
Hand gels should only be used as an interim measure until you are able to perform a proper hand wash; they are not a suitable replacement for good hand washing. Uniforms must be kept clean and tidy, and I wear a clean uniform every day. Tunics should have short sleeves to prevent them from dragging in body fluids when undertaking moving and positioning procedures. I must not go to the shops in my uniform, because I could be spreading bacteria and infectious agents. Personal hygiene is also important in the fight against infection.
Maintaining good personal hygiene includes bathing, washing hands, brushing teeth and wearing clean clothes. It also includes making safe and healthy decisions when interacting with others implementing good personal hygiene practices has both health and social benefits. b. 1.2 Describe the effects of poor hygiene on health and well-being When service users do not maintain personal hygiene certain consequences may develop ranging from social problems to potentially serious diseases. This could led to low self-esteem, neglect, or abuse or be the reason for poor personal hygiene to begin with.

Part Two If a person has poor hygiene they could become ill, with sores from improper washing or with other bacterial infections. If a person doesn’t wash properly they could start to smell and this effect their social well-being as people may avoid them or make fun of them. Outcome Two Part One A resident is encouraged to take a daily shower, this has been discussed and negotiated with them and is explained to them in terms they understand that is they do not wash regularly they could become ill and have to go to the doctors. Part Two Residents are spoken to on a one to one basis by their keyworkers.

It can also make your skin break down which can lead to sores and infections. 2.1 Explain how to address personal hygiene issues with an individual in a sensitive manner without imposing own values I would talk with the individual in a sensitive manner away from others and I would ask the individual what they would rather do or how they would like to it things e.g. their wash routine, or toiletry shop etc. 2.2 Describe how to make an individual aware of the effects of poor hygiene on others If an individual’s poor hygiene was having an effect on others I would sensitively talk to the individual alone to explain that their hygiene level was having an impact on others.
Jewelry has small crevices that can hold microorganisms. Sweat, dead skin, and dirt can combine with the warm semi-moist skin and harbor under the jewelry and cause bacterial growth. The removal of jewelry and watches will enable thorough washing of hands of wrists. While removing jewelry look around the sink area and make sure there is adequate liquid soap and paper towels within reach. One important thing to remember when preparing to properly wash your hands is try to avoid contact with the sink with your hands or clothing.

How to wash your hands Washing your hands properly is an easy way to avoid getting and spreading viruses and germs. First, remove all rings, watches, bracelets, or other jewelry on hands and wrists. Jewelry can carry pathogens and should be cleaned with a disinfectant separately, so they will not be damaged. Next, stand close enough to the sink to reach the flow of water without touching the sink with your body because the sink itself should be considered contaminated. By standing too close to the sink it may spread any contamination to your cloths.
