Exercise in Class 1. Name and discuss the set of variables that your company used to the segment market. Do you think your company have a good segmentation strategy? Why and why not? For consumer marketing, the major segmentation variables are geographic and demographic. In geographic segmentation, the market is divided into different geographical units such as nations, regions, provinces, parishes, cities or neighbourhoods. In demographic segmentation, the market is divided into groups based on demographic variables, including age, gender, family life cycle, income occupation, education, religion, race, generation and nationality. I think my company Telekom Malaysia have a good segmentation strategy. Basically TM is offering the TMNet Streamyx packages based on geographic and demographic segmentation. The package offering is divided depends on customer area, level of education, types of employment and nationality itself. TM also fulfil the effectiveness of segmentation analysis depends on finding segments that are measurable, accessible, substantial, differentiable and actionable. 2. In which stage of the product life-cycle is the iPhone4? Based on that stage, is Apple employing good marketing mix strategies? iPhone4 is in the maturity stage of the product life-cycle. Based on maturity stage, Apple is employing good marketing mix strategies. Apple is continue to invest in maturing products and consider modifying the market, the product and the marketing mix. When modifying the market, Apple attempts to increase consumption of the current product. When modifying the product, Apple changes some of the product characteristics such as quality, features or style, to attract new users or inspire more usage.
