Principles Of Communication In Adult Social Care Settings 1.1 Every person communicates in a different way but the main way is verbally. It is very important that you remember in the care profession you will use communication in every aspect of your role. Communication is what makes a team and will enhance team working relationships. We will always use touch, facial expressions, body movement and sign language as forms of communication. People will communicate to tell us what they want or require on a daily basis. Effective communication must be upheld to ensure that you are meeting all requirements of your job role. 1.2 The key to any relationship is communication, without this even the most basic relationship wouldn’t function. In all communication it must be two ways and this will enable feedback and an openness to express opinions. As relationships develops you will learn what the other person likes or dislikes, it will also help to uphold trust and understanding which will also help us to understand why things are done in a certain way. We are all different in the way we communicate; some people are more comfortable with written communication whilst others will prefer verbal communication. Whichever way chosen if it is done effectively the work team relationship will be much stronger. 2.1 All relationships will develop from communication. To communicate effectively with others you must learn what the preferred method of communication is, this could be sign language, written or verbally. To best check if communication is being absorbed is by looking at body language. In order to communicate you need to be aware of how non- verbal communication is communicated, this means without words. This can be through body language, gestures, facial expressions or eye contact. 2.2 Factors to consider when promoting effective communication can be as follows:
