When sending professional letters out they reflect the image of the business therefore it’s important to ensure they don’t have spelling errors and have correct punctuation. This gives patients, staff and members of the public confidence in the business and keeps our trust with our service users. 1.4 Explain the importance of using appropriate body language and tone of voice when communicating verbally. It is important to be aware of our body language and our tone of voice when communicating verbally. Body language is in face a huge part of communicating, this is known as non-verbal communication examples include: • Facial Expressions • Gestures with arms or hands • Eye contact.
I would also establish a system whereby my students complete a record card or form detailing name, contact information and any other relevant information such as medical needs. Regulations out of the way, personalities are important. I believe that if I am friendly, my learners will relax and know they can feel secure in my class when it starts. Nobody likes to learn with a grumpy teacher. I will always do a fun warm up which helps break the ice.
I like to watch their facial expressions and body language to identify if they are comfortable and understand what I have to say. I am patient and look to the receiver for clarification that they understand what I am saying. If I am unsure of any message or instruction I ask people to repeat so that I don’t misunderstand what is being said. When I am talking I make sure that I am calm and clear to help the receiver to understand me, I often use hand gestures or if I can I like to show people what I am talking about. I make sure that I am clear on instructions, times, dates or location and if appropriate I like to have it written down.
When talking to friends I also use more fillers such as ‘yeah’. I constantly use this filler to check that the other person is listening, as when I say ‘yeah’ my friend will also reply with ‘yeah’ giving me certainty that they are listening to me. When friends and I are talking, the topic is usually about something that happened, whether on a programme or in real life. So when we are telling each other what has happened, the other person usually has an opinion of what happened so will overlap. For example in my transcript...... Overlapping when I friend is talking is done so often that it’s not deemed as ‘rude’ between us so I constantly do it.

The rhetorical triangle was used when distinguishing between the audience, the issue, and the speaker. In the triangle, the speaker usually found ways to make himself sound credible and trustworthy. The speaker also strived to show their credibility by making an impression on an audience. In order to accomplish this, the speaker must be familiar with his audience and make the appropriate appeals to that audience to get their attention. This was important because without the interest of the audience, the point you were trying to get across was nearly useless.
Portland, OR: Petersen Publications. Communication is a complicated and multifaceted concept that can make or break our everyday relationships. Why Don’t We Listen Better? by James Petersen discussed many of the issues that people struggle with along with thought provoking solutions. Petersen (2007) said that communication has two levels: …sharing information and connecting with others.
Often we react quickly to emotionally charged words or subjects. Internally we think of ways to respond to the speaker and argue our position. In this process we often quit listening to what is being said. We make judgments and respond to those judgments as if the speaker’s position were accurately known to us. Criticisms from supervisors and peers often are met with emotional listening resistance.
