Precious Memories The last day of school was finally here. I was amongst the many anxious second graders, patiently waiting for the final bell to ring. When it rang, all of the children, including myself, sprinted out of the crowded classroom and made a beeline for the bus area. The teachers tried to slow us down but they were the last thing on our minds. When I hopped aboard my bus, all of the excited children were chattering about their plans for the summer. Spending time with family, playing with friends, and just enjoying the time away from school were the main topics. As a kid, summer was way more exciting then it is now that I’m a junior in high school. I’m reminded of my childhood memories when I see my younger sister play outside with her friends, running around without a care in the world. In E. B. White’s “Once More to the Lake,” he talks about how certain events can make one feel like a child again and that one may soon realize that they are never going to be a child again. “Reflections on a Gift Of Watermelon Pickle Received from a Friend Called Felicity” by John Tobias explains the joys of the summer as a child and that it doesn’t last forever, but there is something that can always take…show more content…
The feeling of his son’s role was more prevalent in this particular setting which leads me to believe that a special memory was created when White states, “It was not an entirely new feeling, but in this setting it grew much stronger.” Although White’s son isn’t mentioned as much in the story, he plays a key role in triggering White’s flashbacks as a child.
