Jacob Wright Theology 3-1 9/17/13 Prayer Service The definition of prayer is lifting up our hearts and minds to God through communication. Prayer is also a commandment of God. We pray in times of distress, we must turn to God for help; in times of comfort, we must express our gratitude to God; and when all goes well with us, we must still pray to God daily that He continues to show us His mercy and grant us our daily needs. In my daily routine I pray at least twice a day not including school. The first time that I pray is before I start my car I pray to God that I make it to school safely and with no incidents. The second time I pray to God is when my family gathers around the table to say grace before we eat dinner. We can learn from Immaculee and her story that prayer can offer comfort and a sense of being listened to by God and him answering her prayers, whether the answer is being safety in the church or the French military offering protection even if it was for a short period of time. From Immaculee we can also learn how to forgive one another not matter what they have done in the past even if they slaughtered your family in Immaculee’s case. This shows that Immaculee is a true person of faith like Jesus who also forgave his enemies. Community prayer can differ based on the person, I personally enjoy community prayer because of the large gathering of people who I feel make a difference. Other people may not enjoy community prayer either because they enjoy praying in solitude or can get the same feeling praying alone than in a large group. The overall class service will be about those who protect us, praying for soldiers in the armed force, and emergency personnel. We will be going to the chapel for the service in November.
